The Founders Initial Plan

The founders initially wanted America's Democracy to be a Participatory Democracy. They wanted the people to rule most of what happened in their newly independent country, by voting who they wanted into office and have a aggressive and progressive president looking over them. This type of government was thought to be the best by the founders because with the people voting in whoever they want, the person had to have the same interests as them, which leads to positive and helpful things getting done.

The positive effects of a Participatory Democracy are shown in the second political cartoon that showcases an NRA official being nervous over the people crowding around him chanting for different things they want. This is a good thing according to the founders because the people are meant to have the power in their democracy, they should be able to speak about what they think should happen, and not just left in the dust while the more powerful people discuss changes.

Another piece of evidence that the founders wanted a Participatory Democracy is in the first Article of the Constitution. The quote stated, "The House of Representatives shall be composed of members chosen every second year by the people of the several states"(Article 1, Constitution). The founders originally wrote and passed this law so that the people could choose their own representative that brought their ideas to the big stage. Everyone could have their own say in who they wanted, and whoever was elected gathered all of the states ideas and brought them to the national government.

The founders wanted everyone to have a say instead of just the most wealthy or powerful in the country. The only way to accomplish this was to create a government that had an organized way of gathering everyone's ideas and passing laws that helped them. That is why a Participatory Democracy was the right choice for the founders intent for the country.
