Aid for Farmers

On Tuesday, President Trump revealed that the Trump Administration will have $12 Billion in "emergency relief" for farmers. This aid will be most helpful to pork producers, soybean farmers, and dairy farmers, who have been hit hard by China's and Mexico's tariffs. These tariffs were in response to the beginning of President Trumps trade war, tariffs placed on US exports such as steel and aluminum. "One farm-group study estimates that corn, wheat and soybean farmers in the United States have already lost more - $13 billion - than the administration is proposing to provide as a result of the trade war" (The New York Times). If these tariffs are causing the United States to lose money that may not be gained back, then why have tariffs?
Although the tariffs are causing many issues for farmers, President Trump may not stop his tariffs anytime soon. The aid money will help for now, but if the tariffs continue, so will the retaliation tariffs and soon American farmers will be struggling again. The European Union is now working with the United States on the situation of the tariffs. The EU is planning to help reduce tariffs by buying a large amount of soybeans from the US. Eventually, if the EU and US continue to work together, Trump may resolve the tariffs and create free trade between countries. For now, the European Union's help and the $12 billion aid money will help to get the Agricultural Industry back on its feet.

Not everyone believes Trump's plan with the tariffs and trade war is a good idea, some believe it will just cost the United States more money and create conflicts with other countries. However, Trump promises that in the long run, this will end up to be very beneficial for American farmers, the Agricultural Industry, and overall, our country. Is the plan worth it?
