        Immigrant Families being Separated.

The trump  administration had begun a "zero tolerance policy" which started separating families at the border. Even those who were legally seeking asylum. Some parents have even been told that they were just being taken for questioning and would see their child again while the child is put into government custody. The linked article from Vox states that an average of 45 children are being taken every day. Border patrol agents are lying to immigrant parents about where their children are being taken. Over 2000 family have been separated and there are most likely many more. Now the Trump administration has promised to return every child eligible to go back to his/her parents, they were given a deadline for this and have missed it. 711 children have not been reunited for various reasons. Some parents waived all their rights to the children, wether they knew what they were signing or not. Some children cannot be returned due to risks ICE officers believe they would face with their parents. That still leaves a lot of children that should be with their parents. Some of these parents have even been deported without their children.

Class discussion Questions:

Do you think this is wrong or does the government have every right to do this?
How do you feel about people seeking asylum in the US?
How would you react to your government if you had power?
Do you think the majority of the children will be reunited with their parents?

I chose this topic to write about because it shows a moral debate within our own borders. This topic is very easy to read and look at the hard facts and blow it off as our government trying to protect us, but when you empathize with these children and their parents the lines of right and wrong in this case tend to blur.
