America's Wake Up Call
In New Orleans, 2 men and 1 woman found dead and also 7 found injured after a long rifle and handgun were shot into a crowd. Yet the people behind the guns still are on the loose. The Mayor of New Orleans spoke out to this act of violence, "There is no place in New Orleans for this kind of violence. I speak for everyone in our City when I say we are disgusted, we are infuriated, & we have had more than enough. Three more lives — gone. It has to end. It’s unacceptable anywhere." The number of mass shootings done this year is 154, and is increasing as the year goes on. A research was done and it was found in America, 1,300 children died each year from shootings.
Besides the New Orleans shooting, recently an 18 year old girl was stabbed to death, her name was Nia Wilson. The amount of killings that have been done over the years is unbelievable... and its not only guns that kill. This could be a wake up call for America, or at least we hope it is.
The gun control debate has going on for ages now and students are speaking their opinions. On February 14 of this year, a school shooting had occurred in Parkland, Florida where 17 people had lost their lives. This mass killings was ranked among one of the top school shootings in America. This had sparked national protests and students of Parkland to have a voice. Even hashtags were spread throughout America such as Enough Is Enough and March For Our Lives.
While all these protests are being done to get rid of guns, there has not been a single protest that has talked about helping mental health. There are other options than taking away a second amendment to protect people's lives. Besides, does a gun really kill a person? Or is it a person that takes the life of another person?
Questions For Discussion
Do you believe the government will do something to prevent killings?
Will the killing of Nia Wilson help stop something like this to happen again?
Do you believe this could be a wake up call for America?
What is your outlook on this topic? Do you believe something could be done to help?

I chose to write about this current event to bring attention towards the New Orleans shooting, the Parkland Shooting, and the passing of Nia Wilson. I would like for others to be aware of all the incidents that has happened over the past year, and hope that there will be a change which will protect everybody's lives, yet still allow Americans to keep their second amendment. Because like the Mayor of New Orleans said, this has to end and it is unacceptable to anyone, anywhere.
