John McCain Announces his Stop of Treatment

Last year in July, John McCain announced that he had been diagnosed with an agressive case of glioblastoma, a terminal form of brain cancer. From that months McCain withdrew from public eye to treat the cancer with chemotherapy.

Now more than a year later, on August 24,  John McCain announced that he was stoping treatment for brain cancer. On that same day McCain's family released a statement:

“Last summer, Senator John McCain shared with Americans the news that our family already knew: he had been diagnosed with an aggressive glioblastoma, and the prognosis was serious. In the year since, John has surpassed expectations for his survival. But the progress of disease and inexorable advance of age render their verdict. With his usual strength of will, he has now chosen to discontinue medical treatment.”

John McCain has not been in Washington since December and will turn 82 this week. So, as we prepare for the future let's look back on McCain's past.

John McCain's national story began in 1967 where he appeared as a war hero after serving in the Vietnam War as a pilot for the navy. While on a bombing mission McCain's plane was shot down. He was seriously injured and became a prisoner of war in Vietnam until 1973. McCain then retired from the Navy in 1981 and moved to Arizona where he was elected for the House of Representatives on year later. Four years later McCain won his seat in the Senate. In 2000 and 2008 he ran for president, but ended up having to withdraw from the race both times. But, McCain still kept this spot in the Senate.  However, in 2017 McCain voted against the repeal of Obamacare to the surprise to the conservative public. The Washington Post even titled an article,"John McCain: Traitor to the conservative cause". McCain claimed he couldn't vote in good conscience for the repeal of Obamacare. This spiked conflict between McCain and Trump, eventually leading Trump to claim that John McCain was not a war hero.

This brings us to current time where many of McCain's colleagues offered and are offering prayers to him and his family.
Questions for Discussion:
Is Trump wrong in claiming that McCain isn't a war hero?

I chose to write about this because it is apparent that John McCain may no longer be alive for long. I believe that his incredible past should be talked about more and that the state of this war hero is truly sad. Unfortunately, it was announced that John McCain had passed away after I published this article.
