Trump's Legal Headache Continues

Image result for Trump and Cohen

Recently, Trump was found guilty of lying to the public. He had signed a financial disclosure form in 2017 to Cohen, a former lawyer of Trump's. This form stated that he had reimbursed 100,001 to 250,000 dollars. The truth, discovered by federal prosecutors, was in court documents. These stated that Trump had really given 420,000 dollars to Cohen, which is quite different than the previously mentioned amounts. What could this mean for Trump, and what was the reason behind this?

The public has been shocked at the false statement Trump made. This lie has pushed more negativity in the direction of Trump, and given him more of a headache, hence the title. The false statement is worthy of a criminal punishment, yet, the President can not be punished in such ways, which calls for an impeachment. These threats made by the public worsen his current state and the road ahead for him is only getting bumpier.

Why is this much of an issue at all? In 2016, during the election, Trump payed Cohen to pay an adult film star, Stephanie Clifford, an amount of 130,000 dollars over an agreement to stay silent about a supposed affair with Trump. In April, Trump had denied statements about this payment.  By May, the money had been given in full to Cohen. This could be considered an "illegal campaign contribution". Quite the headache for Trump, as he is bombarded with statements and questions from all over the USA.

Questions For Discussion:

  1. Would things have been any better if Trump did not lie about any money transactions as he did in the article?
  2. What are some ways Trump can right himself after a blow like this?
  3. Why was Cohen so quiet about this illegal transaction? Should Cohen have been honest since the start?
I wanted to write about this article because this current event caught my eye. It is interesting to see what else Trump can get away with. Out of all the current events, this one seems to attack Trump the most and the best. Overall, it was the most intriguing article and I hope others think the same.
